Ivory and Sol Curios is a unique artisan studio specializing in handcrafted artwork and jewelry made from sustainably sourced animal bones and sustainable materials. Rooted in a deep respect for nature, I transform natural elements into meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Bone work found me a little over 5 years ago when I was able to attend my first ever Renaissance Faire. I was so fascinated by the different bone artists that I couldn't help but want to do it myself. I remember my Nana taking me on nature hikes in the woods behind her log cabin as a child and teaching me all about the different things we would find. She was also the one to teach me how to make all different kinds of jewelry and now almost 20 years later I'm making it my official business. Since then I've grown in knowledge, but am continuing to learn and hone my particular craft.
My commitment to sustainability guides every step of my creative process—from sourcing materials responsibly to minimizing environmental impact. Each piece tells a story of harmony between art and nature, designed for customers who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and eco-conscious living. Catering to those who love all things odd and whimsical. I am a one woman owned and run business, because of this please be aware that orders may take anywhere between 1-3 weeks dependent on supply and demand.
Thank you for stopping by to take a peek and support my small business and crazy ideas!

I will start off by saying I would never harm an animal for the purpose of my art. I believe what I do is my way of giving back to these animals, preserving them in a manner that is a beautiful reminder of their life. In terms of ethics what I may deem as ethical, others may not see it the same way. So my moral code could be completely different from yours. The matters of ethics are subjective. There are numerous ways which I sustainably source my bones. I am not a wholesaler and do not ever plan to be.
⚔ Foraged Owl Pellets - I order these from Oregon Owl Pellets, a small family owned business in Oregon. Then I hand pick through them myself to get all my smaller bones.
⚔ Locally foraged - These come from animals who have died naturally and are foraged from woods in surrounding areas.
⚔ Family & Friends - They are subsistence hunters, who will give me the bones afterwards and I feel it would be a waste not to use them. They will also forage any bones they come across from animals who have died naturally. These are trusted people I know who support what I do.
⚔ Taxidermist - I work with a local taxidermist who only does a few projects a year so the supply from him is generally small. I feel its wasteful not to accept them because I know the bones are just being thrown out.
⚔ Roadkill - If the animal is in good enough condition I will process it from start to finish. However it is not my preferred method of obtaining bones.
Depending on the stages of decomposition is where I start the process. I do all of this myself to ensure proper and safe cleaning methods are used. This is an incredibly lengthy process that takes a lot of time and energy, that should always be done with the utmost care.
⚔ Bury and let nature takes its course.
⚔ Hot (NOT boiling) water maceration
⚔ Bath of dish soap and water to degrease the bones
⚔ A 1:1 solution of Hydrogen Peroxide and water
⚔ Moths & Butterflies:
I acquire all my butterflies and moths from Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory. Due to the fact that these are usually the ones the conservatory can't use for any of their products they may have imperfections or defects. I work with the staff there selecting only a handful at a time. So there is limited amount I may have available on a monthly basis.
⚔ Honey Bees:
My coworker unfortunately lost one of his hives over the winter and was kind enough to give them to me.
My standard material for all my chainmaille is stainless steel because I prefer its durability factor.
All my earring hooks/hoops are nickel free and hypoallergenic.
I can offer anodized aluminum for those who have an aversion to nickel. However, I keep a very limited stock of it so this will have to be more of a specialty order. Depending on current stock and having to order necessary materials these may take longer than standard orders. If this is something you'd like please include a message at checkout.
Shipping times vary depending on your location, shipping method selected and availability of product. Please refer to our home page for more information.
We do not accept returns, exchanges or cancellations unless the order has not been shipped yet. If something you previously purchased has broken, I may be able to fix it if you are willing to ship it.
